Emmanuel Congregational Church

Weekday Groups

In addition to the groups listed below, members of the church from time to time will initiate a new small group of their choice on such topics as Divorce Recovery, Stress Management, Parenting, or based on discussion of a best-selling book or the Bible. At Emmanuel, we encourage members of the church who have small group leadership potential to be trained, supported and supervised by the pastors. These small group leaders run their own small group with another co-leader on a topic of their own choice. Small Group Leaders Training (usually a Saturday retreat day) is offered periodically when needed.

Emmanuel Church offers small groups on Sunday mornings and during the week (for Sunday morning classes click here).  Small Weekday Groups at Emmanuel are listed below.

This is a group for early risers, meeting on Thursday mornings for one hour (6:30–7:30 a.m.) to explore how to connect our faith to our workplace and daily life dilemmas. The group’s discussion is often stimulated by a book - presently the group is reading Randy Pausch’s The Last Lecture. Led by Ron Farr and Gerald Hettick, the group meets the second and fourth Thursdays of the month in the Fellowship Room.  Contact Gerald Hettick through the church office at 782-2650.

An intimate and fun-loving spiritual discussion group led by Rev. Patty and meeting on the first and third Thursday of the month from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.  Book Clubs are also held in the fall and spring during the Serendipity sessions.  Largely an intergenerational women’s group (but not limited solely to women), participants address important spiritual growth and relationship issues. Contact Patty through the church office at 782-2650.

In-depth classes offered by the pastors to church members and the larger community held periodically on Thursday evenings, 7:00 to 9:00, in Anderson Hall.  Some of the classes focus on personal spiritual growth, others on theological issues. There is always a lot of interactive discussion. Courses in recent years have been "God's Extravagant Grace," "The Heart of Christianity," "The Art of Meditation,” “Hearing God's Call," "Social Issues in the Bible,' and "Christ and the World Religions."  Call 782-2650 for the next course offering.

This group welcomes women of all ages to their meetings on the 4th Tuesday of every month at 1:30 p.m.  Programs are offered from a wide variety of topics pertaining to Christian women, and service projects are undertaken throughout the year.  Contact Ginny Zeigler through the church office at 782-2650.

Church folks watch a DVD selected by the pastors (with popcorn) in Anderson Hall or at someone’s house. Discussion facilitated by Pastors Ron & Patty, who are film buffs! Occasional Fridays, 7:00-10:00 p.m. Childcare often arranged. Film nights will be posted on the website!
